In an ever-changing world, advancements in new technology mean that the way we interact and access music is occurring in increasing rapidity. Now, more than ever, there is a need for credible emerging artists with strong identities who through word of mouth, social media, and Youtube bring their brand of music to the game. With the release of Young & Reckless you are witnessing a collaboration of four such bright stars.
Little Simz – Rapper/ Actress/Model (Youngers E4)/ a resident DJ/presenter on BBC 1xtra on DJ Semtex (Xtra Talent) 2013. Headlined Roundhouse Rising Festival 2013. Little Simz is building up a massive buzz around her.
Clixx – Rapper/ Model/ Emerging Producer. The UK hip-hop’s ‘Prince Apparent’ Clixx also represents the NXG Team.
Khuddus (Sir Apollo) – Rapper/ Singer-Songwriter/ Model. The front man of Sir Apollo (think N.E.R.D meets Gym Class Heroes) Sir Apollo was the first signing to the Illstarz/Seismic label.
Caitlyn – Singer/ Songwriter/ Fashion-designer. Caitlyn is a self-taught Musician (piano and guitar) whose influences range from Lana Del Rey to the Fouls to her current musical fixation Bob Dylan. She has also coined her own music genre of ‘Hippy Indie Soul’.
Produced by Ayo Beatz, Young & Reckless is as instant as they come. A banging kinetic beat leads to a crescendo of different rap styles, with Caitlyn’s distinctive vocals haunting the chorus.
Sir Apollo said: “We knew each other through social media, being introduced, approached or through Ayo. We were played the instrumental, although each of our styles is different, it if felt right and we all liked the beat and the hook…. and the video is different!”
Young & Reckless captures a snapshot of youth and represents their interpretation of it – it cool to be carefree and not being defined by boundaries. It also counters to the argument that youth is wasted on the young. There’s a real sense of optimism in Young & Reckless that runs through opposed to some of the perceptions of young people in the current climate.
This song is the signal. A baton has been has been handed to the young guns – Young & Reckless shows them grabbing and running with it!
