“The Best Movies of 2015…So Far” by Blade Brown

Well, it’s officially July. That means we’re at the halfway point of the year. Doesn’t it feel like we just made our New Year’s Resolutions? Now we’re 6 months away from making new ones. 2015 still has a lot in store, but we’ve enjoyed a good bit of quality films so far this year. With that being said, let’s take a look back at what I feel are the best movies to come out so far.

*Honorable Mentions*
Spy“(Read Blade’s review here)
Paddington
Dope
Entourage” (Read Blade’s review here)
10.Focus” (Read Blade’s review here)
Will Smith’s return to the big screen was a fun movie. It was a slick crime caper and a romantic comedy mixed in one. While the ending seemed a bit forced, it didn’t take away from the overall experience of the movie.

9.Inside Out
Coming out almost two years to the date of the company’s previous movie (Monsters University), Pixar scored with the highest weekend debut of all time for an original movie. A fun movie that adults can enjoy with their little ones, Inside Out was a return to form for one of the most imaginative studios, that began to heavily rely on sequels in the past few years.

8.Furious 7” (Read Blade’s review here)
With a touching end tribute to the late Paul Walker, Furious 7 went on to be a phenomenon and is now the third highest grossing film of all time! While extremely entertaining, the film is arguably the cheesiest of the franchise. But if you love action movies and are a fan of Paul Walker, this movie is a must see.

7. “It Follows
A nod to the horror films of old, It Follows was an extremely pleasant surprise. This story of a supernatural entity that stalks a young woman is eerily quiet, and goes for more jump scares than gore. But is a breath of fresh air in a horror genre that’s dying from a lack of originality.

6. “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (Read Blade’s review here)
The sequel to one of the best superhero movies ever made definitely had an uphill battle. Joss Whedon who never disappoints is at the helm of the adventure in which the Avengers have to deal with a robotic A.I. of Tony Stark’s creation who’s set on destroying the world. Not quite as good as its predecessor, but a blast either way.

5.Predestination
A mind trip if a movie. The less known going in about this movie, the better. Just know there are so many twist, you’ll need multiple viewings to catch them all. A great science fiction movie from beginning to its revealing end.

4. “Jurassic World“(Read Blade’s Review here)
Set up as a direct sequel to the first film, this movie has taken the world by storm and is one of the years best. Its been 14 years since the dinosaurs have been on the big screen. But after the critical and financial success of this movie, I guarantee we won’t have to wait that long for them to return.

3. “Kingsman: The Secret Service” (Read Blade’s review here)
Playing like a new age James Bond, Kingsman is the perfect mix of action and comedy. With great performances all around, this comic book movie found a way to be just as entertaining as the material it’s based on.

2. “Ex Machina”  (Read Blade’s review here)
The best science fiction movie since Inception. A movie where nothing is what it seems, the story of an A.I. and its desire to live is one of the best films of the year.

1. “Mad Max: Fury Road”  (Read Blade’s review here)
The return of the road warrior was 30 years in the making. Tom Hardy stars in the role that made Mel Gibson famous, and makes it his own. Charlize Theron is just as good in this apocalyptic tale that is a rollercoaster ride from start to finish. Unlike anything you’ve ever seen, Fury Road is visually amazing and one of the best action movie of all time.
